ILS Labs Finds 100% Pure Retatrutide, Chemistry Can Go Home Now

A little over a week after putting a dog on a peptide COA, ILS is back with a retatrutide result so perfect that impurities have apparently been discontinued.

Just over a week ago, we published the story of ILS Laboratories allowing a customer to upload a photograph after submitting a sample. One of our community members uploaded a picture of his beautiful, completely non-peptide dog. Nobody caught it, and the dog appeared on the finalized Certificate of Analysis beside a 99.77% MOTS-C purity result. 

ILS appears to have patched that problem. 

Yay! Good. Progress. The dog has been removed from laboratory service and can return to his important work of barking at delivery drivers.

Unfortunately, while closing the dog door, ILS appears to have opened a portal into a universe where retatrutide can achieve molecular perfection.

A newly issued ILS COA for a vial labeled Retatrutide 20 mg reports 100.00% peptide purity, 20.57 mg net peptide content, confirmed identity, and an endotoxin result of 0.05 EU/mL. Not 99.9%. Not greater than 99%. Not “no additional peaks detected.”

One hundred point zero zero percent.

Two decimal places, because apparently perfection needs extra precision.

Somewhere, a peptide chemist just looked at this report, slowly removed his safety glasses, and walked into the ocean.

Every Chromatogram Gets 100%. The Peptide Does Not.

Here is the basic trick.

The included peak areas on a chromatogram are normalized so that their total equals 100%. That does not mean the target peptide is automatically 100% pure. The target peak should represent some portion of that total, while any other integrated peptide-related peaks account for the rest.

A Janoshik retatrutide raw-data report, for example, showed a main peak at 99.529% and another peak at 0.471%. Together, the chromatogram totaled 100.000%. That is how this normally works: the total is 100%; the retatrutide is 99-point-something.

ILS skipped the annoying 99-point-something part and went directly to sainthood.

Its own methodology says the result was calculated through RP-HPLC area normalization at 214 nm. It also says the number represents the target peptide relative to the peptide-related peaks included in the analysis, while non-peptide process-related impurities are excluded.

In regular English: the number does not describe everything inside the vial.

Any filler, water, salts, counterions, excipients, or other non-peptide material can sit outside this purity calculation. None of it needs to disappear for ILS to print 100.00%.

So ILS did not establish that 100% of everything inside the vial was retatrutide. It reported that retatrutide represented 100% of the peptide-related HPLC area it counted.

How do you produce that result?

Count one qualifying peak. Divide that peak by itself. Discover perfection. Send PDF.

Maybe this was an exceptionally clean sample with no other peptide-related peaks above the lab’s reporting threshold. That is possible.

Maybe smaller peaks were rejected by the integration settings. Maybe something co-eluted beneath the main peak. Maybe the unrounded result was close enough that the portal rounded it upward.

The COA does not let us determine which explanation applies.

It presents a chromatogram, but no complete peak table, no reporting threshold, no detection limit for related impurities, no integration parameters, no rejected-peak list, and no raw area calculations. We are simply handed 100.00% and expected to admire it.

That does not prove the result was fabricated. It does prove the document is nowhere near detailed enough to support the absolute certainty implied by that number.

A responsible conclusion would be:

No additional peptide-related peaks were detected above the validated reporting threshold.

Then the lab would tell us what that threshold was.

Instead, ILS chose:

Perfect retatrutide. Trust us, bro.

Last week, the official sample photograph was a dog. This week, the sample has achieved a purity level normally reserved for distilled water in religious paintings.

At this rate, next week ILS will test a vial of tirzepatide and confirm that it has no original sin.
