Use of Your Personal Data
We may use your Personal Data for:
- Providing and maintaining our Website and Community Forum.
- Managing your account.
- Sending newsletters, promotional offers, and marketing content (with your consent).
- Sending transactional and account emails (such as password resets, vendor approval notifications, and forum digests).
- Tracking outbound clicks for analytics, vendor attribution, and fraud prevention.
- Operating contests, sweepstakes, or rewards programs you choose to participate in.
- Monitoring and analyzing Website usage.
- Compliance with legal obligations.
Account Linking Between the Website and Community Forum
The Website and Community Forum use a single sign-on (SSO) system. When you log in to either, we issue a signed token containing your username and email address, which is passed to the Community Forum to create or look up the matching forum account. Your Drupal user ID and your NodeBB user ID are deliberately kept the same, so that any actions in one system can be associated with the same person in the other.
Email Services
We use the following providers to deliver email on our behalf:
- Amazon Web Services (Amazon SES) for transactional and account-related email (such as password resets, vendor notifications, and forum digests).
- Sender.net for newsletter and marketing email.
By subscribing to our newsletter or promotions, you consent to the processing of your Personal Data by these providers in accordance with their respective privacy policies. You may opt out of marketing emails at any time by clicking "unsubscribe" in any marketing email or by contacting us directly. Transactional emails (such as password resets) are required to operate your account and cannot be opted out of.
Cookies & Tracking
We use cookies and similar technologies for the following purposes:
- Strictly necessary cookies that keep you signed in, prevent CSRF attacks, and remember your preferences.
- Analytics cookies from Google Analytics 4 (
_ga,_ga_*) to measure traffic and feature usage. - Advertising cookies from Google Ads, Meta (Facebook) Pixel, and X (Twitter) Pixel to measure conversions and serve relevant ads.
- Affiliate-attribution cookies we set ourselves (such as
_pc_fbc_eid) so that browser-side and server-side conversion events for the same click can be deduplicated. - Bot-protection cookies set by Cloudflare (
__cf_bm,cf_clearance) to keep our services secure.
You may disable cookies in your browser settings, but this may limit Website functionality.
Analytics and Advertising
We use third-party analytics and advertising services, including Google Analytics, Google Ads, Google AdSense, Google Ad Manager, Meta (Facebook) Pixel, and X (Twitter) Pixel, to understand how visitors use the Website and Community Forum and to deliver relevant advertising.
Server-Side Conversion APIs: When you click an outbound vendor link, we may also send a server-to-server conversion event to Meta's Conversions API. This event includes a hashed form of your IP address, hashed user-agent, and the click event identifier. We use this in addition to (and deduplicated with) the corresponding browser-side pixel event so that ad-blockers and browser tracking restrictions do not impair the accuracy of our advertising measurement.
Payments
If you make a purchase from us — such as a vendor subscription, sponsored placement, or item from our store — payment is processed by Stripe. Stripe collects and stores your payment-card details on its own systems in accordance with its privacy policy and PCI DSS requirements. We never receive or store full card numbers; we only retain a Stripe customer ID, the last four digits of the card, and the transaction history necessary to provide receipts and support.
Data Retention
We retain your Personal Data only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described above or as required by law. Specific retention windows for the categories users most commonly ask about:
- Outbound click logs (the data described under "Click and Affiliate Data" above): retained for 24 months, then automatically deleted.
- Forum posts and vendor reviews: retained indefinitely while published, since later readers continue to rely on them. You may request deletion of your account and associated content at any time.
- Account records (username, email, password hash): retained while your account is active. Deleted accounts are removed within 30 days of confirmed deletion request.
- Email delivery logs from Amazon SES and Sender.net: retained per their respective retention policies, which we do not control directly.
Data Sharing
We do not sell or trade your Personal Data. We may share it with:
- Service providers (e.g., analytics, advertising, payment processing, IT, email delivery, content delivery).
- Law enforcement, if required by law.
- Business transfers (e.g., merger, acquisition).
Subprocessors we currently use: Amazon Web Services (hosting, SES email), Stripe (payments), Cloudflare (CDN, WAF), Sender.net (newsletter email), Google (Analytics, Ads, AdSense, Ad Manager), Meta (Pixel and Conversions API), X / Twitter (Pixel).
