PNC-27

Description

PNC-27 is a synthetic anticancer research peptide derived from a segment of the p53 tumor suppressor protein fused to a membrane-penetrating peptide (MRP) sequence. The design allows the peptide to selectively bind to HDM-2 (human double minute-2) proteins that are expressed on the membranes of many malignant cells.

Unlike traditional cytotoxic compounds that induce apoptosis, PNC-27 has been reported in experimental models to cause rapid membrane disruption and necrosis of cancer cells after binding to HDM-2 on the tumor cell surface. Normal cells, which typically do not express HDM-2 on their membranes, appear largely unaffected in vitro.

Because of this selective targeting mechanism, PNC-27 has attracted attention in experimental oncology research as a potential tumor-selective membrane-lytic peptide. Current work remains limited to cell culture and animal studies, where the peptide has demonstrated activity against multiple tumor types including breast cancer, leukemia, melanoma, and pancreatic cancer models.
